Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk, warmed
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 large apples, peeled and diced
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Instructions

  • In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar, then sprinkle the yeast over the top. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it looks frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the melted butter, egg, and the frothy yeast mixture. Mix until combined.
  • When the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl, turn it out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  • Prepare the filling by combining the diced apples, cinnamon, brown sugar, and lemon juice in a bowl.
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Spread the apple filling evenly over the dough, then roll it up from one edge to the other, making a tight log.
  • Slice the rolled dough into 1-inch pieces and place them in a greased baking dish. Cover and let them rest for about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  • While the rolls bake, prepare the glaze by mixing the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Once the rolls are out of the oven, drizzle the cream cheese glaze over them and serve warm.
