1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup corn syrup
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
Optional: 1/2 cup raisins or pecans
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
In a bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy. Gradually add flour and mix until a crumbly dough forms. Press this mixture evenly into the bottom of your prepared pan.
Place the crust in the oven and bake for about 15 minutes, or until lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, corn syrup, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
If you’re using raisins or nuts, sprinkle them evenly over the baked crust. Pour the egg mixture over the top, spreading it evenly.
Return the dish to the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is set and slightly puffed. The center could still be slightly jiggly.
Allow the squares to cool completely in the pan before slicing them into squares.
