Instructions
Rinse and drain the black beans, then add them to a bowl. Mash them slightly with a fork—just enough to break them up without turning them into a puree. Mix in the cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
Heat about ¼ inch of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once shimmering, add a tortilla, cooking for about 30 seconds on each side until golden and crisp. Remove and let it drain on a paper towel. Repeat for the remaining tortillas.
Fill each crispy tortilla with a generous spoonful of the black bean mixture. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and avocado if desired. Squeeze a little lime juice over the top for extra zing.
