Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese

  • Instructions

  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are deep brown and caramelized.
  • Once the onions are caramelized, add the minced garlic. Stir for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Push the onions to one side of the skillet and add the ground beef. Brown the beef, breaking it up with a spoon until no longer pink.
  • Stir the beef and onions together in the skillet, then add Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, optional brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes or until the liquid is slightly reduced.
  • While the beef mixture simmers, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place your hamburger buns on a baking sheet, cut side up, and toast them lightly for about 5 minutes.
  • Once toasted, remove the buns from the oven. Fill each bun with the beef mixture, then top with a slice of Swiss cheese.
  • Return the assembled buns to the oven and broil for an additional 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven, and garnish with your choice of fresh parsley or onion strings. Enjoy!
