  • 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 can (14 oz) of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup of semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • Extra pecans or coconut (for garnish)
  • Chocolate shavings (for garnish)
  • Fresh mint leaves (for garnish)

  • Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the German chocolate cake mix, water, oil, and eggs. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until well blended.
  • Pour the batter into a greased 9×13 inch baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool for at least 20 minutes.
  • Once the cake is cool, use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke holes all over the cake, about an inch apart.
  • Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the cake, ensuring it fills the holes you created.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, and butter. Stir continuously until thickened. Remove it from the heat and stir in the coconut and pecans.
  • Once the frosting has cooled slightly, spread it generously over the cake, making sure to cover the entire surface.
