Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound Gnocchi
- 2 cups Cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 cup Milk
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Mustard powder
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 1 cup Breadcrumbs, optional
- ½ cup Crispy bacon or pancetta, optional
- 1 cup Vegetables (like spinach or peas), optional
- Red pepper flakes, optional
- Fresh herbs (like parsley or chives), for garnish
- Grated Parmesan cheese, for garnish
- Crispy shallots, for garnish
Instructions
- In a large skillet, bring salted water to a boil and cook the gnocchi according to package instructions. Once they float to the top, they’re done! Drain and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and whisk together to form a roux. Cook for about 1-2 minutes until golden, then slowly whisk in the milk, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
- Stir in garlic powder, mustard powder, salt, and black pepper. Let the sauce simmer for around 5-7 minutes until thickened.
- Reduce heat to low, add the shredded cheddar cheese gradually, and stir until melted and glossy. Mix in the cooked gnocchi until they are well coated in the cheese sauce.
- If you’re using crispy bacon, mix it in now. For added crunch, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top.
- Let the skillet cook for an additional 5 minutes over low heat to meld the flavors. If you prefer a crispier topping, place it under the broiler for 2-3 minutes.
- Garnish your Gnocchi Mac and Cheese Skillet with fresh herbs and additional cheese if desired. Serve hot!
