Ingredients
Scale
1 lb ground beef (80/20)
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup soy sauce (for sauce)
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 teaspoon fresh ginger
4 hamburger buns
4 slices fresh pineapple
1 cup lettuce leaves
Optional: sauce for drizzling
Instructions
Prepare the Teriyaki Sauce: In a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Heat over medium heat. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with a tablespoon of water to create a slurry. Once the sauce begins to simmer, stir in the slurry and cook until it thickens. Remove from heat and let it cool.
Make the Burger Patties: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Gently mix until just combined. Divide the mixture into four equal parts and shape them into patties, slightly larger than the size of the buns.
Grill the Pineapple: Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Grill the pineapple slices for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until grill marks appear and the fruit juices start to caramelize.
Cook the Burgers: On the same grill, cook the burger patties for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or to your desired doneness. During the last minute of cooking, brush each patty with the prepared teriyaki sauce for extra flavor.
Assemble the Burgers: Place a grilled burger patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with a slice of grilled pineapple, a few lettuce leaves, and a drizzle of additional teriyaki sauce if desired. Cap with the top half of the bun.
Serve and Enjoy: Serve immediately while hot, with extra pineapple or teriyaki sauce on the side for dipping.
