4 cups of all-purpose flour1/4 cup of granulated sugar1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) of active dry yeast1 teaspoon of salt2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg1 cup of whole milk, warmed1/4 cup of unsalted butter, melted2 large eggs1 cup of mixed dried fruit1/4 cup of orange zest1 cup of powdered sugar1–2 tablespoons of milk for glaze
In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the milk and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until blended.In another bowl, mix melted butter, activated yeast mixture, and eggs. Whisk until smooth.Pour wet ingredients into dry and mix until it forms a shaggy dough. Turn it out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth.Knead in desired dried fruits and zest until evenly distributed.Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise until it doubles in size (about 1 hour).Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape each into a bun and place them on a greased baking tray close together.Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes until fluffy.Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush buns with melted butter and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.Mix powdered sugar with 1-2 tablespoons of milk to create a glaze, and drizzle over warm buns. Notes
