Ingredients
Scale
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups dried figs, chopped
1 cup walnuts, finely chopped
1/2 cup honey
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon orange zest
Instructions
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. In another bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
In a medium saucepan, combine chopped figs, walnuts, honey, cinnamon, and orange zest. Heat over low to medium heat until warm, then allow to cool completely.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper. Divide chilled dough into portions and roll out to about 1/8 inch thick.
Cut the rolled-out dough into squares or rectangles, place a teaspoon of filling in the center, fold and seal the edges.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until lightly golden. Cool on wire racks.
