1 cup pumpkin puree
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
Optional: 1/4 cup cream cheese, red pepper flakes, chopped pecans or walnuts
Special Garnishes: powdered sugar, crushed graham crackers, whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a mixing bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. Stir until well mixed.
Roll out your thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into rectangular strips (about 3 inches wide).
Place a tablespoon of the pumpkin mixture on the center of each pastry strip.
Starting from one end, fold the pastry over the filling and pinch to seal, forming a twisted shape. Gently twist each piece to create the signature ‘twist’ look.
Place the twists onto the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they have enough space between them.
Brush the tops with the beaten egg to give them a lovely golden color while baking.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning.
Once done, remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
