Description

A delightful casserole combining tender green beans, creamy sauce, and crispy shallots, perfect for family gatherings or simple dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 cup sour cream (can substitute Greek yogurt)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for a lighter version, use half-and-half)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup crispy shallots (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (adds umami)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (for brightness)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). While it heats, rinse and trim the green beans, then chop them into 1-inch pieces. Prepare your baking dish and grease it lightly.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and sauté the chopped onion until softened, about 4-5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  3. Mix sour cream, heavy cream, soy sauce, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Add the sautéed onions and garlic, blending well. Toss in the green beans, ensuring they are evenly coated, and pour into the greased baking dish.
  4. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Then remove the foil and sprinkle crispy shallots on top. Bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown.

Notes

Feel free to customize this casserole with optional ingredients like mushrooms or spicy red pepper flakes. Serve with toasted almonds or parsley for garnish.
