Description
Delicious grilled sweet onion rings paired with a smoky dipping sauce, perfect for summer gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large sweet onions (Vidalia or Walla Walla, cut into 1/2-inch thick rings)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- For the Smoky Dipping Sauce:
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Begin by preheating your grill to medium-high heat, preparing for those beautifully caramelized rings. While the grill heats up, slice your sweet onions into 1/2-inch thick rings. Spread the rings out on a tray or plate, ready for breading.
- Combine the flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in a bowl. In another bowl, pour in the buttermilk.
- Dunk each onion ring into the buttermilk, then coat thoroughly with the flour mixture.
- Brush your grill grates with olive oil to prevent sticking, then place the breaded onion rings on the grill, cooking for about 4-5 minutes on each side.
- Remove the onion rings from the grill once golden brown and arrange them on a serving platter.
- Serve alongside the Smoky Dipping Sauce.
Notes
Serve warm and crispy, and feel free to garnish with fresh parsley for added flair.
