Description

Delicious and fluffy donuts glazed with sweet maple icing, perfect for a cozy morning or festive gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • Chopped pecans or walnuts (for garnish)
  • A drizzle of chocolate (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Start by preparing your workspace. Gather all the ingredients and tools you’ll need. In a saucepan, gently warm the milk until it’s lukewarm. Stir in the yeast and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until bubbly and frothy.
  2. Combine the warm yeast mixture with melted butter, sugar, and eggs in a large mixing bowl. Mix well to combine all the wet ingredients. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a sticky dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (1-2 hours).
  4. Punch down the risen dough and roll it out to about ½-inch thickness. Use a donut cutter to cut out donuts and allow to rise again for about 30 minutes while heating oil for frying.
  5. Heat oil in a pot to 350°F (175°C). Carefully drop the donuts into the hot oil, frying for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown. Let drain on paper towels.
  6. Mix powdered sugar and maple syrup in a bowl until smooth for the glaze. Dip warm donuts into the glaze, allowing excess to drip off. Sprinkle with nuts or drizzle with chocolate before serving.

Notes

Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. Store leftover donuts in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freeze unglazed donuts for up to a month.
