Description
A delightful dish combining tender gnocchi with savory sausage and a rich, creamy sauce that’s perfect for romantic dinners and cozy nights in.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound Italian sausage (sweet or spicy)
- 1 package (16 oz) potato gnocchi
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup baby spinach, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh basil, for garnishing
Instructions
- Start by gathering all your ingredients and chopping the spinach and garlic. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil for the gnocchi. Prepare your skillet by preheating it over medium heat and adding olive oil.
- Add the Italian sausage to the skillet. Cook it for about 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart as it browns. When browned, add in the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using). Sauté for an additional minute until fragrant, then pour in the heavy cream.
- Stir the mixture well and allow it to simmer. While the sauce simmers, drop the gnocchi into the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, typically 2-3 minutes until they float to the surface.
- Drain the gnocchi and add them to the skillet with the sausage and sauce. Toss to coat thoroughly, then fold in the fresh spinach until just wilted. Serve hot, garnished with more Parmesan and fresh basil.
Notes
Feel free to customize by adding a splash of white wine or using turkey sausage for a lighter option. Serve with garlic bread and a crisp salad for a complete meal.
