Description
A hearty skillet dish combining sweet and savory sautéed cabbage with rich kielbasa, perfect for cozy dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 small head of green cabbage (about 2–3 pounds), sliced
- 1 lb kielbasa sausage, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon caraway seeds (optional)
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (for brightness)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Start by preparing your ingredients. Slice the cabbage into thin ribbons, chop the kielbasa into bite-sized pieces, and slice the onion. Mince the garlic. This dish comes together quickly, so having everything ready will make cooking smoother.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, toss in the sliced onions and garlic, sautéing until the onions become translucent. Next, add the kielbasa and sauté until it’s browned and starts releasing its flavorful oils.
- Stir in the sliced cabbage, salt and pepper, and caraway seeds (if using). Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10-15 minutes until the cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized.
- Drizzle the apple cider vinegar over the skillet for a touch of acidity that brightens the dish. Give it a final stir before serving.
- Serve in the skillet itself or transfer to a large serving bowl, garnished with chopped parsley.
Notes
For a vegetarian option, replace kielbasa with plant-based sausage or sautéed mushrooms.
